DESCRIPTION:Kid’s Science Discovery: Spring Sounds \nThursday\, April 16\, 2026\, from 1:30 – 2:30 pm \nMeet at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center \nKids\, spring is here\, and the animals are getting active! Let’s learn about the unique sounds that birds\, frogs\, and other critters make. Science Discovery programs are geared for students looking to take the classroom outside. Itasca is a wonderful outdoor learning space to explore the natural world. What to Bring: This program will include going outdoors if weather allows\, so plan for the weather. Dress in layers and wear snow boots. \n  \nCircle Time Under the Pines: E is for Eggs \nWednesday\, April 22\, 2026\, from 11 – 11:45 am \nMeet at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center (look for the big building under the big pine trees.) \nChildren 2-5 years old\, come explore Itasca as we learn about nature through stories\, songs\, crafts\, and outdoor discovery. Bring your outdoor clothes as we will be outside exploring nature if weather allows. NOTES: Adults must accompany children. Consider bringing a picnic lunch and enjoying your noon meal around the fireplace in the visitor center lobby after the program. \nSaturday\, April 25\, 2026 is Free Park Day! \n  \nSeeing the CCC: Walking Tour \nSaturday\, April 25\, 2026\, from 12:30 – 1:30 pm \nMeet outside of the Forest Inn. \nCurious about the Civilian Conservation Corps? Want to be able to identify CCC buildings? How has the legacy of the CCC continued today? Join us on a walking tour starting at the Forest Inn and ending at the Old Timer’s Cabin! The tour will last an hour\, and the Old Timer’s Cabin will be open for exploration for an hour following the tour. \n  \nOld Timer’s Cabin\, Open Tour  \nSaturday\, April 25\, 2026\, Cabin open from 1:30 – 2:30 pm (come and go at your leisure) \nHeld at the Old Timer’s Cabin\, located along the boardwalk below Douglas Lodge.  \nOnly 4 (massive) logs tall\, learn more about this Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructed building. The Naturalist staff will have the cabin open for you to tour at your leisure.

Join the Bagley Public Library for an event designed to help you explore raised beds and container gardening. Master Gardener volunteers Linda Gulbranson\, Nancy Ames\, Kathy Rasch and Lynn Riggs to discuss the many ways you can create a flourishing vegetable\, herb and flower garden while maximizing the space you currently have. Whether you have a small yard\, deck\, balcony or porch\, you can create beautiful flower displays and grow your own fresh vegetables in Minnesota’s Zone(s) 3/4 climate and short growing season. \nThe workshop is scheduled Saturday\, April 25 from 10 am – noon at the Bagley Public Library\, 79 Spencer Ave. Topics include: Raised bed\, container and vertical gardening\, Site\, planter and soil selection\, Square foot gardening\, companion planting and succession planting\, and more. \nAdmission is free and no registration is required.
