Kid’s Science Discovery: Spring Sounds
Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 1:30 – 2:30 pm
Meet at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center
Kids, spring is here, and the animals are getting active! Let’s learn about the unique sounds that birds, frogs, and other critters make. Science Discovery programs are geared for students looking to take the classroom outside. Itasca is a wonderful outdoor learning space to explore the natural world. What to Bring: This program will include going outdoors if weather allows, so plan for the weather. Dress in layers and wear snow boots.
Circle Time Under the Pines: E is for Eggs

Meet at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center (look for the big building under the big pine trees.)
Children 2-5 years old, come explore Itasca as we learn about nature through stories, songs, crafts, and outdoor discovery. Bring your outdoor clothes as we will be outside exploring nature if weather allows. NOTES: Adults must accompany children. Consider bringing a picnic lunch and enjoying your noon meal around the fireplace in the visitor center lobby after the program.

Seeing the CCC: Walking Tour
Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 12:30 – 1:30 pm
Meet outside of the Forest Inn.
Curious about the Civilian Conservation Corps? Want to be able to identify CCC buildings? How has the legacy of the CCC continued today? Join us on a walking tour starting at the Forest Inn and ending at the Old Timer’s Cabin! The tour will last an hour, and the Old Timer’s Cabin will be open for exploration for an hour following the tour.
Old Timer’s Cabin, Open Tour
Saturday, April 25, 2026, Cabin open from 1:30 – 2:30 pm (come and go at your leisure)
Held at the Old Timer’s Cabin, located along the boardwalk below Douglas Lodge.
Only 4 (massive) logs tall, learn more about this Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructed building. The Naturalist staff will have the cabin open for you to tour at your leisure.
