Clearwater County Museum Open on National Grandparents Day

September 13 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The History Center in Shevlin will observe National Grandparents Day, Sunday, September 13 with an open house from 1 to 4 pm.

An Ice Cream Social, Root beer floats, Brownie Sundaes and other refreshments are planned. A special event includes horse and wagon rides around Shevlin, exploring where historic buildings were located in Shevlin over 100 years ago. Rides will leave from the museum at 1:30 and 2:30 pm. (weather permitting)

The National Theme is “I will never forget you.”

National Grandparents Day started in 1978 when President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation making the Sunday after Labor Day “National Grandparents Day.” September was chosen for the holiday to signify the “autumn years.” Its purpose is to honor grandparents, give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

The Clearwater County Historical Society encourages Grandparents to bring their grandchildren to the museum on Sunday and share their memories with them. Not a grandparent yet? Bring your grandparent or an older person to enjoy the museum. Admission is free.
